It's Spring! Do I need to irrigate?
How much should I irrigate? What is this letter from utility
company about backflow certification?
Certain seasons tend to lend themselves to particular irrigation
services.
Here at Fishers we are ready to advise and perform the services
YOU decide you need and can afford.
Spring, things are growing, and blooming. It's raining a few
days every week. The water company sent that letter we mentioned
above. At Fishers we feel this is the season to start up your
irrigation. This is when we recommend our start up service. We
open water supply, seal the backflow, set your controller for
a early season weather, inspect rain sensor if your sprinkler
system has one equipped and finally we will run a test cycle of
system. Walking through and inspecting heads for coverage and
landscape space for possible winter damage.
It is at this time we advise certifying your Backflow device.
Twofold concept here, Backflow devices are mandated to be certified
every year and since the primary function of the device is to
protect you and your neighbors against contamination of the potable
water supply so we can establish an easy schedule year over year
to avoid hassles with water utility and also we make sure that
your system isn't possibly running with a failed backflow endangering
your potable water. We are state certified to both inspect and
repair Backflow devices and will record your inspection with the
appropriate utility provider. We feel it is worth noting that
even though your system has been "started" you do not
have to use the system! Many people enjoy a spring vacation and
can be concerned about water use and temperatures while out of
town.
At the end of your service we can simply turn your controller
OFF. The controller will hold its program ready to go until you
return and turn it ON.
It's Summer! Time for a Mid Season
Irrigation Check Up - Is it necessary?
Summertime its warm to hot, we may have had drought conditions
or a wet year. Ideally this time we would like to take a look
at system in a manner the same as your start up walk thru. We
refer to it as a mid season check up. This service begins with
the system cycle walk thru.
Have any heads been damaged? Have any of the pattern adjustments
shifted or has the hot weather exposed a weak area in the coverage
which we can readjust to cover in a better manner? Do the plants
and turf exhibit extended stress demonstrating the system or maybe
a specific zone needs more water or a different style in its cycle?
This is the service Fishers regards as most optional and if you
have a very stable landscape space we may even advise against
spending the money on a service your sprinkler system most likely
wont need or for a customer who's hands on ability demonstrates
we don't need to hover over their system. Please note that in
summer or any other season if you notice an issue or have
concerns beyond your comfort level we are happy to schedule an
appointment to stop by and investigate.
It's Fall! Do I need to irrigate?
Fall, temperature is falling slowly, rainfall is irregular.
As this season in Indiana is frequently short Fishers Irrigation
suggests the customer simply keep a casual eye on landscape and
sprinklers. Of course any obvious problem we want to set an appointment
and get things adjusted or repaired as necessary but this season
is all about getting ready to winterize or shut down system.
Winterization tends to conjure images of snow and ice, hot chocolate
and Christmas trees. Really though this service is targeted to
occur in late fall prior to potential damage and as soon as we
can trust mother nature to take care of our landscape. This allows
us to avoid repairs due to freeze damage and avoid as much water
use as we can. Both of these goals are important to keep customer
expenditures down.
When we come to winterize your system, we will use a large air
compressor to force air thru system pushing as much water as possible
through the heads
.
This process prevents freezing water from expanding and breaking
your Backflow device, your heads and the pipe. After the "blow-out"
procedure is finished, we will open all valves on Backflow to
provide any accidental water introduced to system will not stay
in the high dollar component.
Your irrigation source from utility company will be shut off.
In the case of a shut of in customers basement if there is a drain
fitting to clear line from Backflow device entering structure
will be drained if we have access. Further your controller will
be turned OFF or unplugged depending on your preference. This
prevents the controller from sending electric signal to the valves
and adding non productive wear and tear.
It's Winter! Can I relax now?
Winter cold, grey, snow, holidays, family time, dormant landscape
grants us a vacation from keeping an eye on both inside and out
around the house. So Relax!
We at Fishers hope this season is filled with joy and peace.
That your holidays are all you want them to be. And, that in a
few months, we will be seeing you again.
In this season we would suggest that an occasional glance at
your Backflow device as weather allows you to be outside. We recommend
this because in the event that the valve that shuts your system
down starts to fail it can over time fill the pipe and it will
begin to drip from the open valves on your Backflow device. This
is the season to catch this problem because when your system is
up and running the leak we mentioned is sending water into a closed
system and we cannot see it occurring.
Fishers Irrigation is available even in winter but we may have
to wait for a day with acceptable temperatures to affect the repair
if your water source is outside the structure and exposed.
